Our Work

Transforming Pharmaceutical Manufacturing in Sub-Sahara Africa

Of all medicines consumed across sub-Sahara Africa only 20-30% are produced locally.

Our Work

Building Local Capacity To Manufacture APIs

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) are the actual drugs that are then formulated into tablets, liquids, capsules, or injections

Our Work

Enhancing Local Pharmaceutical Production of APIs and other HPTs

Supply disruptions of essential medicines become particularly acute during health emergencies such as in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic where the supply of most essential medicines and raw materials was significantly hampered.

About Us

API for Africa (APIFA) is a non-profit organization facilitating the local production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and other health products and technologies (HPTs) in sub-Sahara Africa. APIFA works with a multitude of critical stakeholders from the private sector, public sector, research institutes, and civil society, to address a major market challenge: the lack of not only API manufacturing capacity in sub-Sahara Africa, but also affordable medicines.
